The O2 turns pink in world first for K-Pop superstars, BLACKPINK
The world’s most popular music, leisure and entertainment venue, The O2, has been lit up pink in honour of K-pop superstars BLACKPINK performing two headline shows at the venue this week, on Wednesday 30 November and Thursday 1 December.
In a world first, the appearance of the London venue’s iconic white tent, and ‘The O2’ entrance sign, will be transformed to bright pink, as over 30,000 BLACKPINK fans head to The O2 for the band’s first ever headline shows at the venue this week, as part of their [BORN PINK] tour.
One of the most successful K-pop groups in music history, BLACKPINK have taken the world by storm and are the most-subscribed music act on YouTube with over 83 million followers, and officially the most-followed girl group on Spotify.
BLACKPINK said: “The O2 was [BORN PINK]! We are so excited to be back in Europe for our [BORN PINK] World Tour. London feels like our second home, so it will be exciting to see all of our BLINKS in person.”
Steve Sayer, VP & General Manager at The O2 said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming BLACKPINK, the biggest girl band in the world, to The O2 this week for two incredible headline shows – and what better way to mark their monumental headline performances than by turning the iconic white tent pink for the very first time in their honour. K-pop is taking the music industry by storm, and we’re proud to be connecting these unstoppable artists with their legions of fans in the UK. When AEG Presents, (promoter of BLACKPINK’s global tour) brought the idea to us we knew we had to make this unforgettable moment happen.”
Simon Jones, SVP of International Touring at AEG Presents said: “We’re very excited and proud to start BLACKPINK’s European arena tour with two historic nights at The O2 – a mere sneak peek into what they have planned for their colossal BST Hyde Park show in July 2023. To mark BLACKPINK being the first female K-pop band to headline The O2, it was only right that the whole venue should be turned pink for the first time ever in their honour. Iconic!”
The South Korean quartet will be returning to London in 2023 for their UK festival debut, at American Express presents BST Hyde Park on Sunday 2 July 2023. Tickets are on sale now, and more information can be found at bst-hydepark.com.
The O2 is located just 15 minutes from central London and is easily accessible by road, tube and boat. A full day out destination, the venue is also home to outlet shopping with over 60 designer brands at up to 70% off RRP, over 30 bars and restaurants, and multiple attractions including roofwalk Up at The O2, London’s largest cinema Cineworld, interactive bar TOCA Social, and much more.
